Carolyn Alkire, Ph.D.
senior ECONOMIST

Picture
Carolyn is a natural resource economist with extensive experience analyzing federal agency budgets and the application of economic principles to federal, state and local government land and resource management. She focuses on economic and policy issues associated with the management of lands and resources — often regarding conflicts over resource uses and/or development. Her research has addressed market and nonmarket values of natural resources, tradeoffs associated with commodity uses vs. conservation, direct and indirect employment and income effects associated with land and/or resource uses, and federal funding for resource management and conservation. Carolyn earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Richmond, M.S. in economics from North Carolina State University and Ph.D. in public policy from George Washington University.

sonia wang
policy analyst

Picture
Sonia completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, where she double majored in Environmental Sciences (College of Arts & Sciences) and Public Policy and Leadership (Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy). Prior to joining Key-Log’s staff, Sonia was selected to be a part of UVA's highly selective Conservation Scholars Program, a joint effort between UVA and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.  Through the program, she worked with the Foundation's Marine Team on transitioning their conservation strategies in the Caribbean from a topic specific approach to a broader, regional effort. Sonia has also worked for The Shenandoah Watershed Study, the longest-running record of stream water composition and discharge data in the U.S. National Park System and interned at The Wilderness Society as a renewable energy government affairs intern.
